One valuable lesson is focusing on what we can control, which promotes personal and professional growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Personal Anecdote: The Overprotective Mom<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have a knack for bringing stress into my life all by myself. But my biggest challenge? Being overprotective of my loved ones, especially my kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I recently listened to Shankar Vedantam&#8217;s &#8220;Hidden Brain&#8221; podcast episode, &#8220;Why Trying Too Hard Can Backfire on You.&#8221; Thinking it would help my son, I sent it to him. His response? A polite but firm request to stop sending such links. Ouch!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For a moment, I was offended. But then I realized I was trying to control something beyond my reach\u2014his life. Sometimes, it&#8217;s better to focus on ourselves and the things we can control. My overprotective instincts needed to be reined in for the sake of peace and healthy relationships. Lesson learned<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to Focus on What You Can Control<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recent years have shown us that life can feel out of control.
