As a very possessive wife and mom, I\u2019ve always given my 200% (yes, I know that\u2019s mathematically impossible, but here we are). Naturally, I expected the same in return\u2014full enthusiasm, undivided attention, and, at the very least, a standing ovation for my culinary masterpieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But instead of applause, I often got\u2026 silence. Or worse\u2014half-hearted \u201chmm\u201d responses while they scrolled on their phones. How dare they?! Small disappointments turned into sulking sessions, which turned into dramatic inner monologues of \u201cNobody appreciates me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then, one fine day (probably after one too many passive-aggressive sighs), it hit me\u2014I was expecting others to operate like me. But the truth is, I do what I do because I hold myself to high standards. Expecting my family to mirror my Type A perfectionism was like expecting my husband to read my mind (spoiler alert: it has never happened).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Once I let go of expectations, my relationships improved. I started enjoying giving without keeping score. And let me tell you, the peace that followed? Priceless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Do I still wish my kids would text me at least once a day? Absolutely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Will I survive if they don\u2019t? Deep sigh \u2026Yes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Moral of the story? Do what you do out of love, not out of expectation. It saves you a lot of unnecessary drama and wrinkles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now, excuse me while I text my kids first\u2014because we Type A moms can’t help ourselves.
